Okay, I missed yesterday so today I have 2 tips for you.
Improve your writing – by having a copyeditor go over manuscripts you will have a lot of your grammatical errors, punctuation errors and incorrect wording picked up early. The proofreader then makes sure that all the suggested changes that you wish to make have been made. “Yeah well, I don’t need a copywriter or a proofreader – I know exactly what I am doing!!” Guess what? Even proofreaders get people to check their work – I know I do. The question is – do you want your work to be professional, and have an edge over others, or are you happy enough to have something that is just so so?
You do retain control of your work.
I am sure that you think of a proofreader and copyeditor changing YOUR work to THEIR work, and that you have to accept EVERY suggestion that they make. W R O N G !!!!!!! As a proofreader, I make suggestions to an author and then leave the ball in their court. After all, it is their work not mine.
Proofreading and copyediting is a skill, and while you may have a great knowledge of the English language, punctuation etc, we ALL need help at one time. Happy writing and until the next installment ……………………….
